Early Years

Early childhood development is now seen as pivotal to future success and wellbeing. Our highly trained and caring teachers create a happy and safe environment in which young imaginations of our two – five-year-old pupils are inspired, ready for their next adventure in Pre Prep School.

Learning is primarily based on play and exploration with termly topics to keep young imaginations inspired. We use the Read Write Inc literacy scheme and an Early Years Mathematics programme to develop basic writing and numeracy skills. We have specialist teaching for Gymnastics and Movement, Modern Foreign Languages (French Club), Music and Performing Arts (Confidence Club).

The Early Years Team updates parents daily through our parent communication tool Classdojo via messages, class stories or photos or videos of the children enjoying their time in the setting.

The Early Years Department also benefits from an excellent outdoor environment and play area, and children enjoy a range of activities, such as water play, learning in the Mud Kitchen, Gardening, Den and Construction making play.

All stages of a child’s progress and their memorable moments are documented in their Learning Journal, which becomes a lovely keepsake for parents.

We aim to make education in Early Years as enjoyable and stimulating as possible, guided by rigorous policy, monitoring of progress and staff training. With us, children start to learn the key skills, such as early reading, writing and number work as well as listening to teachers and to each other, and learning to follow our Golden Rules which are the building blocks of early education.

The Ofsted Inspection team, on their most recent visit in 2020, said; Leadership of the early years is effective. Teachers involve parents from the start so that they know how their children are getting on. The curriculum is well planned and children enjoy lots of different activities. They take part in visits, for instance to Warwick Castle. Adults have the same high aspirations for all children and move them on to the next stage when they are ready. Relationships between adults and children are warm. Children behave well and are kept safe. They are well prepared for Year 1.

Government funding is available in accordance with current legislation, and we also accept a range of childcare vouchers.
