Prep School Curriculum
Our expanded curriculum and focus on building a better understanding of core subjects such as Maths, English, Science and IT/Computer Science gives pupils a fantastic educational foundation to build on moving forwards.
Each of our Prep School pupils is given a timetable that suits their educational needs and interests. We find that tailoring education to suit the individual allows them to achieve the best possible results; and also enjoy subjects that are most interesting to that individual.
Although we have adopted the National Curriculum, we are not totally bound by it, so have the freedom to introduce a wide range of subjects.
Mathletics and Atom Learning have proved extremely beneficial in supporting core skills education, and Information Technology is used across the curriculum.
Able, Gifted and Talented provision within the school includes setting in English and Maths, differentiated lessons and extension extra-curricular activities.
During Years 3 and 4 the children are primarily taught by their class teacher, which gives them a strong sense of continuity. For subjects such as Specialist Sports, Music, modern languages such as French and Mandarin, and Drama we have specialist teachers, and this is extended to other subjects in Years 5 and 6. It means children are taught by someone who is especially passionate and knowledgeable about their subject and can convey that enthusiasm to their class. We have also expanded our technology offer to include Food Technology provision to pupils within our Prep School.
There are concerts and drama performances at all ages of the school. There are separate Prep School productions for Years 3 and 4, and Years 5 and 6, with many other opportunities to perform on the stage in Form Assemblies and at special events.
Modern Foreign Language provision are French, Spanish and Mandarin. The small size of our classes enables us to teach in a way which embraces the educational needs of each child.
